Best homegrowns: Week 5 features several veteran stars

In the European League of Football, every team will only go as far as its homegrown players will take it. Week 5 was a perfect example, as many homegrown players stood out and made huge impacts on their games once again.

Dawid Brzozowski, running back, Wrocław Panthers

Last season the Polish running back led the entire ELF with 1,116 rushing yards in only 11 games. This season, he's been on an even stronger pace, rushing for over 112 yards a game. This past Sunday, against the Enthroners, Brzozowski ran for 132 yards and a touchdown, including a dazzling 41-yard run that featured a slick juke move on the safety. Next week the league's second-leading rusher and the Panthers face off against a tough Vienna defense.

Juan Flores Calderon, wide receiver, Milano Seamen

Last year's offensive rookie of the year seems to have found his old ways, putting up 94 yards and a touchdown on three catches. Calderon and quarterback Zack Bronkhorst have been building their chemistry lately resulting in more catches for the young wide receiver. This week he caught three passes including a deep 80-yard pass for a touchdown. The young deep threat continues to impress as one of the best homegrown receivers in the ELF.

Marco Schneider, wide receiver, Raiders Tirol

The 2022 Rookie of the year has been relatively quiet this season with only 93 yards and 7 catches before week 5. Against the Helvetic Mercenaries, however, Schneider made several plays, as new quarterback N'Kosi Perry seemed comfortable giving him the ball very often. Schneider reeled in seven catches for 79 yards as the Raiders moved to 4-1.

Tiberio Calbucci, linebacker, Milano Seamen

Calbucci was a huge factor in the Seamens road win in Barcelona this past weekend. The veteran Italian player made eight tackles and had a sack and tackle for a loss. The Italian national team member even made a clutch pass break-up in the passing game as the Seamen picked up their second win of the season.

Marius Kensy, linebacker, Rhein Fire

Marius Kensy was a key factor in Rhein Fire's comeback win over the Berlin Thunder. Kensy made several clutch tackles in the fourth quarter as the Rhein Fire defense stepped up and forced a turnover on downs to essentially win the game. Kensy finished the day with 10 tackles and a sack. The veteran tackler will look to continue his run-stopping success as the Rhein Fire head to Madrid this week.

Luis Horvath, defensive back, Vienna Vikings

The veteran defensive back had a great game against the Prague Lions putting up six tackles, including a sack and two tackles for a loss. Horvath was part of a secondary that held the Lions to only 135 yards passing as the Vikings cruised to the next win and gained a 5-0 record.
